Big news!
Google has acquired another ecommerce company---like.com!
The website’s CEO Munjal Shah announced this news on the homepage of his website. It is rumored that this pick-up has exceeded 100 million dollars. Well, Munjal did not disclose the detail of this acquisition and Google did not respond to this news.
Like.com is a website that people can search visual images to find similar products, mostly women’s handbags, shoes and other products. It helps people to get an easier and more pleasant shopping experience. For Google, maybe it is interested in the core technology of Like.com and in the future it shall develop in image searching to enhance itself. In today’s world, ecommerce is becoming more and more important. You can see this from China’s ecommerce giant---Alibaba.com. It is reported that its annual turnover was about 200 billion yuan, about 29.6 billion US dollars. Google may see the potential of it.
Mr. Shah implied in his comment that he and his development team shall be devoted to visual image searching technology in the future. We shall wait what Google shall do with like.com.
